Neonfaith – Escape (Official Video)

4 Apr

We’re Back!!

Orbiting Sound took a bit of a hiatus, but now we’re back in business! I think it’s fitting that the first post should be Neonfaith, a band I’ve excitedly featured before.

Here’s the brand-new video of Escape, a single off their upcoming EP out this summer. Enjoy the chill vibes and the great storyline of the video, matching perfectly with the song’s mood. I’m eagerly awaiting Neonfaith’s upcoming work.

Miracles of Modern Science – Call Me Maybe (Carly Rae Jepsen cover)

28 Jun

Despite how much I don’t like the actual song by Carly Rae Jepsen, Miracles of Modern Science‘s cover of “Call Me Maybe” is pretty well done. They put a fresh and interesting take on the vastly overplayed song (sorry for the radio cynicism haha). The vocal harmonies and edgy instrumentals distinctive of this five piece orchestral indie band create an eclectic combination of mandolin, violin, cello, standup bass, and drums. I’ve been a fan for a while and this is a good cover by MOMS. If you like it, be sure and check out Dog Year by them:

Stars – The Theory of Relativity

24 Jun

First off, I have to admit that I originally listened to this song solely because of the science-based track name and my own nerdiness..but either way it’s a great pop song from the Canadian group, Stars. The background vocals, multilayered synths, and catchy chorus make this a hit for me. It really reminds me of the 90’s music I wasn’t alive to hear.  Stars’ new album, The North, drops September 4. Don’t be afraid to check them out:

Neonfaith – Escape

23 Jun

This next song comes from a small group out of NYC, NeonFaith. With a fusion of electronica, hip hop, and soul (kinda like neapolitan ice cream), their first recorded song is definitely setting them up for some great things. The lead singer (Megan)’s voice nicely complements the guitar backline and the overall mixing of the song. “Escape” is a nice, mellow song that really gets me grooving about 2 minutes in.

Watch for these guys to keep producing great music. I’ve got my fingers crossed about them.

Saint Motel – 1997

20 Jun

Next up is a song from yet another California band (I guess they are just a lot of them!). Saint Motel has been on my radar for a while, and with the release of a brand new track two days ago, I decided to post one of my favorite songs by them released about a month ago. “1997” is a song that is extremely characteristic of the feel that Saint Motel exudes throughout all of their music. A level of California mood is portrayed, but serious time has been devoted to lyrics that match the high quality of the music. The energetic instrumental intro and the catchy chorus are just two more reasons to listen in. Look for their debut album, Voyeur, out July 10.

Ernest Saint Laurent – Offering (Capital Cities Remix)

19 Jun

Here is a track released a week ago by one of my favorite California groups, Capital Cities. Their new remix of the song “Offering” by Ernest Saint Laurent (ft. Tatiana Heintz) is yet another good song by them. It’s has a smooth, mellow vibe with great vocals to accompany it. Capital Cities never ceases to supply high quality music.

Dirty Projectors – Dance for You

18 Jun

Here we have a new single from the group Dirty Projectors. This is the second single they’ve released from their upcoming album, Swing Lo Magellan (dropping July 10). I really liked what I heard with “The Gun has No Trigger”, which is furthered in their new track. The band continues with their fresh spirit, producing even more music with a solid guitar line and a summer mood, while still retaining balance with the lyrics. This is one to add to your collection.

P.S. I apologize for not posting in so long, but hopefully we will both have more time to update Orbiting Sound during the summer. Thanks for all your support.

Hot Chip – Night And Day

18 Apr

Night and Day was released earlier this week from the British group, Hot Chip, in preparation for their upcoming album, In Our Heads. This new single provides us with an energetic electric song that is different from the rest in its genre; it actually develops a lyrical story within the song while still maintaining its energetic mood. The multiple layers of synths and bassline are overlaid with a catchy vocal hook that has you singing by the end of the song. It definitely fits the season: a very refreshing, spring-like song paving the way for the energy and fun of summer. Hot Chip must have been working night and day to produce a song like this (I’m sorry for the pun, but I couldn’t resist…)

Mercury Skies – Superman

16 Apr

Our next song comes from the band Mercury Skies, a 5 piece indie rock band from Essex, England. This song comes off their new (and first) album, Superman EP. The great (British) vocals mix well with a refreshing guitar line complemented by a smooth bass and steady drums The lyrics and the background vocals make this song a catchy hit for me, with an air of 2 Door Cinema Club, but preppier and much more authentic.

Oh, and if you can, please watch this video: http://www.muzu.tv/liveandunsigned/mercury-skies-live-unsigned-basildon-regional-final-music-video/1329459/ and vote for Mercury Skies. They’re finalists in the Live and Unsigned competition and need all the help they can get. I think these guys have a really promising future in producing great music, so please support them!

Blackbird Blackbird – Overboard

13 Apr

Image

Blackbird Blackbird, a unique culmination of Indie rock with Hip-Hop, Folk, and Electronic influences, impressed me with the Dream Pop-ish, relaxing track, “Overboard.” While not necessarily new, Blackbird Blackbird is a band that Indie lovers should pay attention to as they constantly develop and improve their sound.
